But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God:which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 1 Peter 2:9-10.
Titles and qualifications come with prefixes placed before names. When some persons are introduced in social engagements, the number of prefixes added to their names may become very long. I live in a society where many people have titles and desire to show them off to people. Every heavenly citizen also have some titles unfortunately they cannot be added as a prefix to their names. These are expression of the change of status by redemption.
A chosen generation, royal priesthood, a holy nation and a peculiar people; people of God. These are not just mere titles obtained by qualification but received at redemption. We are not expected to become but made at the new birth a people of God.
“And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.”Matthew 4:19-22.
It’s amazing how Jesus recruited the people who follow him. He calls and they follow, the call is simple but it is a selection process making everyone called a chosen generation. Many are called, few are chosen! Every citizen responded to the call. Many are called from lowly background and elevated to royalty and a priesthood in Christ. We are also a holy nation, a people sanctified, separated for kingdom use.
Peculiar people, special, unique and beloved of God; the people of God. We are not going to become these in the future, this is who we are in Christ. What we could not achieve naturally is granted to us by the new birth. Everyone that Jesus calls, he makes; from no people to the people of God. This is who I am! Redemption qualified me to be made.
“Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:”Colossians 1:12-14.
Prayer: Father, I give you thanks because we are qualified by redemption to become the people of God. We that were once no people have been chosen for royalty, holy and peculiar by the new birth. You called and we came and became citizens of the kingdom. My joy overflows in Jesus name.
