For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:12-13
One of the first things I was told as a junior student in boarding school was that order is the first law in heaven. That may not sound so instructive to you but was very insightful at the time. You wake up by 5am prompt for morning devotion, 5:30-6:00 for cleaning the hostel and brushing your mouth, 6:00 to 7:30 for fetching water from the springs and having your bath…10pm lights out. The whole day had a planned schedule to follow.
God has created the heaven and earth with orderliness imputed not chaos. Every spirit being is created at a level to function, everyone maintain their estate. The hierarchical demonic order is from the least- principalities to the highest level- spiritual wickedness in high places.
“Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,”Ephesians 1:20-22.
Heaven is a place of order not disorder. Everyone has his place along the spiritual pecking order, we are seated together with Christ far above the highest hierarchy of the devil. Redemption gives us a seat at the table to exercise the power of attorney to command and be obeyed. When our estate is challenged, we stand against the devil to cast him down to his level.
It’s not a contest, but a conquest; a time to seat and another to stand. It’s our position in redemption that gives us the armour to withstand the devil.
The devil always tries to ascend beyond his permissible estate, it’s our duty to to withstand him in our life. Seated to stand!
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” James 4:7-8.
Father, dear father, I am delighted to know that I am seated with Christ in heavenly places to withstand the devil. It’s not a physical combat but spiritual conquest by the same lord and saviour Jesus Christ.
