And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said,I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not shew you mine opinion. I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom. But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding. Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment. Job 32:6-9.
Wisdom is an expectation from age and experience
Wisdom is an expectation from age and experience. The older a person, the more seasoned, learned and wise he becomes. Respect, honour and deference are accorded older persons. The young look forward and pray to live to old age to become decision makers. Their opinion is received as the solution on every issue. But this is not always the case. How old was Joseph in Egypt when he offered a national solution? What of Daniel in Babylon when did he become first among the best? Elihu kept quiet because of his age but had the solution. The wisdom of God is inspired by the Spirit of God and not by age. The ancient of days is older than the oldest and wiser than the wisest.
The wisdom is revealed by the Spirit of God from the word of God. The word of God is the solution to the situation; this wisdom is shown by the Holy Spirit. He understand the situation better than any other and offers real time solutions. Respect the aged but trust the Spirit of God to know what to do. Even before the situation arises, custom made solution awaits. The wisdom of God is the highest form of wisdom. He gives contemporary solutions to current situations. There is a spirit in man; the Spirit of wisdom.
“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.”1 Corinthians 2:12-13
